Lower your golf handicap online with quick easy golf tips!

Quick Easy Golf Tips are all here on one page for all areas of the game from golf swing tips to golf balls. For more detail see the relevant sections.

Start with the Z Factor - Start sinking more putts!

Quick speed Golf Tip

A smooth takeaway leads to increased speed at impact. In your pre shot routine swing the club above the ball. Swing - Waggle it two or three times about two feet toward the ball and back about two feet or back.

This relaxes the muscles in the arms and shoulders. Allows you to soften up grip pressure without loosing control of the club and gets you balanced on your feet in an athletic posture.

Quick Swing golf Tip

Its a good idea to say a couple of words in your mind as you swing. The reason for this is to take the verbal side of your brain out of the swing equation.

Some examples are Smooth - hit, Money - ball, back - hit, swing - hit, Ying -Yang.

It doesn't matter what the words are as long as they are condusive to tempo and stop your verbal side of the brain from interfearing in your swing.

Quick Left wrist Golf Tip

Provided you have a neutral grip, to square the club at impact your left wrist has to stay flat with your fore arm.

If it bows it will be closed (draw) and if its bent up the club face will be open (slice).

Quick Back Swing Golf Tip

Make sure you complete your back swing before starting down. Try a small pause at the top and then you will be in a good position to transfer your energy forward.

Quick Swing Path Golf Tip

An outside takeaway gets your hands above your shoulders at the top, start the downswing by shifting your lower body toward the target. As the arms follow the the lower body's lead they will naturally fall into the slot producing an in to out swing.

Quick Arm Golf Swing Golf Tip

For this swing the arms need freedom, you should have a slight bend in your knees, a straight spine tilting about 18 degrees back from the pelvis and just enough that your hands hang about a hand width from your thigh.

Swing them back and as long as your arms lead the club through impact and swing around your body to a nice finish you will have a good swing. It's a good swing to have as a back if nothing is in sync or you are very strong in the upper body.

Quick Strategy from The Rough Golf Tip

Escape the long grass.

Hitting a full swing out of long grass is always risky, as long as you get the ball out and have your next shot from the fairway the harm should be minimised.

Choose a club that gives you the best chance of getting out, usually a 7, 8 or 9 iron.

Remember your main aim is to get out, you don't want another shot from the rough!

Distance Golf Tips

Don't let your ego stand in the way when choosing clubs for a particular shot.

Do your home work first, go out on to a flat practice fairway and hit 20 balls with each club.

Measure where most of the balls are landing for each club, now take 5 Meters off the distance and write it down in a small note book. The reason for subtracting 5 meters is to allow for more inconsistent swings when you are only hitting one ball at the pin when playing a round.

Make sure all the balls are the same type and the ones that you use in competition.

Quick Tip for sinking Three to five footers

Rest a club shaft over the the back of the hole. Hit the ball firmly into the hole, if you hear a clink as the ball drops into the hole you know you have made a positive stroke as the ball has touched the shaft.

Quick Bunker Shot Golf Tips

Keep a wide stance about the same as the driver, this will keep the legs quiet and with full torso turn it is easier to keep the club face open and use the bounce of the club.

Keep the plane of the swing more horizontal to stop the club from digging into the sand.

Cupping your wrists is also extra insurance to stop the club digging into the sand. Have the ball just inside your left heel and keep your shoulders and hips parallel to the the slope.

Keep your right wrist angle through the swing.

Chip with One Club Golf Tip

To get consistency practice using one club, preferably a pitching wedge. Vary the position in the stance, length of swing and tempo for different shots and also experiment with an open and closed club face.

If you have a sub 5 handicap you may get better results with a lob wedge. But your ball striking consistency needs to be solid state.

Quick Weight transfer Golf Tip

As you transfer your weight to the left side, firm up your left side to prevent a hip slide. Make it hip rotation not hip slide.

To get the right movement imagine you are trying to finish with your hips and torso up against a high fence in from of you.

Quick Golf Impact Golf Tip

your body should make a K and your arms should make a reverse lower case y.

Quick Putting Golf Tips

Have both thumbs on top of the the grip for feel, Keep a still head, weight favoring the left foot, swing path should be like the opening and closing of a door, have a solid rap and most of all a consistent stroke every time.

Putting Left Hand Down Golf Tip

The big benefit to putting left hand down is that the natural set up automatically allows for a straight left wrist with your left forearm.

To increase stability run your right hand index finger on top of the fingers of your left hand.

Quick Putting Practice Golf Tip

Practice 6, 12, 18, 24,36 and 48 foot putts. The goal should be to get the ball to the hole or up to 3 feet past the hole.

Remember short putts don't go in!

Quick Set up Golf Tip

Make sure your hips are parallel to the ground. If you consistantly slice there is a high chance that your right hip is above your left.

To check this just run your shaft along the top of your hips and get some one to check the alignment. The easiest fix is to push your hips forward so your front leg is vertical and drop our right hip a little.

Quick Shoulder Alignment Golf Tip

Make sure your shoulders are parallel at address! As a guide You should be able to see your left shoulder out of your peripheral vision.

To check actual alignment put a club shaft across your shoulders and get somebody to confirm it is parallel to the target line.

Quick Shoulder Turn Golf Tip

Make sure you do a full shoulder turn. You should be able to see your shoulder out of the corner of your left eye.

Quick Tempo Golf Tip

Try full swings at different speeds, around 85% should give you consistency and power. If not slow down a little until you are making clean consistent contact.

Quick Fine Tuning Approach shots Golf Tip

Try hitting approach shots with full swings and varying the swing speed. It's a great way to fine tune your approach shots and increase your tempo awareness.

By doing this it will build feel into your swing speed giving you an extra dimension to your game.

Quick Golf Tip on Pressure Shots

Just focus on the a specific target look at it for 3 or 4 seconds, regulate your breathing, see the ball landing there in your minds eye have a couple of practice swings and go into your your pre shot routine.

Quick Alignment Golf Tip

Check your alignment perception from time to time. Align your club face to a target on square tiles and then grip the club and align your feet as well. Remember the view of the club face at address on the tiles.

Its easy to set up with an open club face and feel it is on line with the target when it is actually right of the target.

Quick Aiming Golf Tip

Always align your club face to an intermediate target two or three feet in front of the ball. Then align your feet and body then finalise your grip. Feel the weight on your left side.

Quick Putting Practice Tip

Obviously you have to work constantly on sinking the putts inside 5 feet but the other key is to work on the long putts. The reason for this is that for tour pro's the average distance from the pin for hitting irons into greens is about 27 feet.

Assuming the average golfer is about 30% less accurate than a tour pro the average distance would be about 36 feet.

Quick Putting Practice Routine Tip

For a practice routine mark with a tee 12,24,36 and 48 feet from the hole. Drop 4 balls at each tee. Your goal is to sink them or leave the balls 14 inches to 3 feet past the hole.

If a ball finishes short start from the 12 foot marker again.

Quick Putting Formula Tip

If you are a bit on the analitical side and have a consistent putting stroke you can develop putting formulas to rationalise putts you are facing.

As an example for a down hill putt with the grain running towards the hole from 48 feet with my putting style I know I need a 24 foot length stroke to get the ball to the hole for this shot.

Once I have the formula for the putt required I will stand behind the ball and practice that stroke to get a feel for what is required. You can also pretend the hole is short to help you visualise the putt. Refer to putting formulas for more detail.

Quick Real Time Tip

Down hill putts roll for a longer time than up hill putts.

Quick Sand Shot Tip

You want the sand wedge to glide through the sand - not dig into it! Listen for a spank not a thud. The divot should be wide and shallow not narrow and deep.

Quick Distance Tip in Bunkers

The general rule is a full shot in a green side bunker goes about a third the length of a shot from the fairway.

Quick Strategy Bunker Tip

Is it a Safe bunker shot? If it has the following attributes try getting it close to the pin.

Safe Signs;-

Flat or Uphill lie Light colored sand Feet dig in an inch or so No trouble behind the pin Plenty of green to work. Low to mid size bunker face

Is it a Risky bunker shot? If Yes. Focus on getting it out of the bunker in a reasonable position for your next shot.

Risky Signs:-

Ball plugged or half plugged Down hill lie Deep Face Wet sand (Dark in color) Little to no sand under foot Water, bunker, long grass or steep embankment behind the green

Quick Stats Bunker Tip

Remember Tour Pro's only get up and down from bunkers about 55% of the time. So go in with reasonable expectations and remember you need to practice bunker shots to build your confidence and expectations.

Quick Bunker set up Tip

Move your feet into the sand and grip the club a little lower on the grip. Set up club head aiming at target. Hips and shoulders and feet open about 20 to 25 degrees to the target. 60% of your weight on your left side, ball inside left heel, cupped wrist and swing along the line of your feet.

Maintain your wrist angles through impact and maintain tempo through the shot. Keep legs flexed and feel as though the ball is splashing on the sand using the flange not digging in.

If some balls are still not coming out of the sand make your swing a little more horizontal, this will help the club to skip across the sand.

Quick bunker Plugged Ball Tip

If the ball is plugged, open the club up and lead with the heel of the club to slice in under the ball.

Quick Long Bunker Shot Tip

For longer bunker shots use your gap wedge as the club will have more foward thrust and with less flange the ball will carry further with less effort.

Quick Chipping lie Tip

Chipping requires accurate clean contact and to achieve this you first need to inspect the lie and the contour to the green to determine the type of chip you want to hit.

If the grass grain is facing away from the green the likelyhood is that the grass will grab the club head and decelerate the club head. Use a vertical shaft with a putting style chip and hit the ball of the toe.

Quick Follow Through Tip

Focus on swinging through the hitting area and extending through to to the target. The longer your club head stays on line the straighter you hit the ball. This will increase accuracy and as a bi product give you extra power.

Quick Control Tip

Move Arms and Torso as a Unit for control. This fundamental is for full shots, pitches and sand shots.

To control pitches the difference between a full shot is just the degree of body turn.

Quick Fundamental Tip

Keep your hands soft on the club.

Quick Shaping shots Tip

Apart from alingment the other way to help shape ball flight is by using grip pressure. For a fade grip at 8 or 9 out of 10 grip pressure and for a draw reduce grip pressure to 1 or 2 out of 10.

Quick Rythm Tip

If you have problems with your swing, work on rhythm and tempo and slow down your swing.

Quick Right Leg Tip

On the back swing try and keep your knee flex and the position of the right knee constant. The weight should still transfer to the inside of your right foot, this will keep your swing balanced and minimise swaying.

Quick Follow Through Tip

Transfer your weight to the left side and finish with your belt buckle facing the target.

Quick Tension Tip

Keep tension out of your arms by having a couple of swings above the ball prior to your swing and stretching while you are waiting on the tee block.

Quick Consistency Tip

Keep your hips and torso turning with your arms in sync for consistent ball striking.

Keep your posture and spine angle constant through your swing.

To keep a fluid back swing keep your chin up and turn your chin about 1/2 an inch to the right before starting your backswing. It will allow your left shoulder to swing under your chin and free up shoulder muscles on the right side reducing the chance of swinging over the top with your right shoulder and having to adjust your spine angle.

Quick Aiming Tip

Get a intermediate target 3 or 4 feet in front of the ball. Stand behind the ball and use your shaft lined up between the target and the ball to get a accurate intermediate target.

Aim your club face at the intermediate target.

From there set your body alignment and finally your grip.

Quick Scrambling Tip

Work on your short game, Pro's have to scramble on 30% of holes they play. If your off a 20 handicap you have scramble on about 60% of holes that you play.

Check this Youtube video out for scrambling and getting "Putting Momentum"

Quick Getting Started at golf Tip

Get lessons when you start to play golf. Keep away from bad habits.

Quick Golf Practice Tip

Take your time with practice - Don't slash away - Develop the same habits in practise that you will use on the course.

Quick Warm Up Tip

Have a hot shower an hour or so before your game. Don't have the air conditioning on in the car on the way to golf or on the way home.

Warm up properly and and get in stretches, chips and putting as a minimum.

Warm down with some stretches and a hot shower.

Quick Vardon Grip Tip

The foundation of your swing is the grip. Get the Vardin grip feeling natural and that will guarantee that the linkages will work correctly.

Quick "Games gone to the Dogs" Tip

If your games gone to the dogs play the game with your safe shot. If it's a slice, aim left and let it slice to the right.

Quick Flexability Tip

Keep flexible and good core strength to maintain a reasonable swing with stretching and regular exercise.

Quick video Tip

Get a series of video golf lessons as a aid for swing reinforcement for learning and maintaining your game.

Quick Grind Tip

Enjoy the grind, keep a positive attitude, work on tempo if you have just hit a shocker. Stay in the present and trust your natural ability.

Keep it simple on the course.

Quick Course Management Tip

Keep your expectations reasonable. If your playing a stroke round play more conservatley, get back on the fairway and target the center of the green.

Quick Putting Tip

Get your putter face square at set up! Keep your putter low to the ground on the back stroke.

Quick Down Hill Putting Tip

For steep down hill putts hit the ball of the toe with a lite grip. As the toe is dead the ball

will come of this part of the face without much acceleration.

Quick Basic Putting Tip

To stop moving your head when you are putting try focusing on the grass just behind the ball.

Keep looking at that point till you hear the ball drop into the hole.

Quick Wrist Tip

A straight wrist squares the club at impact, bowed wrist closes (draws) and cupped wrist opens (fades)

Quick Putting, Chipping Single Lever Tip

Putting and chipping are one lever swings. Rock your shoulders to form your putting and chipping stroke.

Quick Putting Focus Tip

After taking your putting stance look at the ball and look at a point on the cup where you want the ball to hit the cup. Focus on that point for 3 or 4 seconds then look from the hall to the ball. Do it twice if you want and then swing.

Quick Club Tip

Know how far you hit each shot. Keep the grips and club face clean.

Quick golf Happiness Tip

Add your handicap on each hole and set that as your par for each hole. This will set a level of expectation in line with your ability and make each hole more enjoyable as you are achieving your expectations more frequently.

Quick Confucious Golf Tip

Read, think and practice using anaylasis and then turn it into instinct and habit. When you go to the course trust what you have developed pre shot routine get tempo and swing away.
