Carnoustie- Established in 1850 and located 12 miles east of Dundee and by the A92 or A930. Par 72 and 6941 yards gives the amateur golfer a tough test and the course requires clever course management as there are many deep bunkers and deep rough. The last three holes provide for a difficult finish and as Jean De Velde will no doubt testify the last can kill your round. Throw in a strong breeze and you will have a fight on your hands to play near your handicap.

Kingsbarns

This course was built in 2000 and is ranked in the top 20 of UK's best courses. Par 72 and 6,174 yards. You won't be disappointed and the course is pristine. The green fees are on the expensive side but well worth it. The course is 12 miles east of St Andrews on the A917. For more details see www.kingsbarns.com.

Dunstanburgh Castle - Established in 1900 and located seven miles north of Alwick on the B1339. Par 70, 6,039 yards. The course is situated on the Northumbrian Coast and is over looked by the ruins of the Dunstanburgh Castle.A classic course from the era and very reasonable for mid week rounds for golf courses England.

Craighead Course (Crail)

Established 1998 and located 11 miles south East of St Andrews. Par 72 and 6,728 yards. An interesting course overlooking the ocean with some nice signature holes like the 17th pat three played to a raised green protected by three bunkers.

Golf Courses England West

Burnham & Berrow

Established in 1890 and 1 mile north of Burnham on the Sea on B1340. Par 71, 6,393 yards. Although it hasn't got the reputation of St Andrews or other classic English courses it has the pedagree with many of the finest course designers adding to the tradition of this course over the years. If the wind is blowing and combined with the knee high rough you will have a memorable round. It's not over till you have overcome the 440 yard par 4 dogleg 18th.

Bristal Golf Course

Established in 2000 and just off junction 17 of the M5.Take the B4055 to Severn Beache Links and the club is on the right. Par 70, 6,111 yards. This course has stunning views over the Severn Estuary and as with many of the modern courses the closer you get to the 18th the harder it gets. Casle Links on the Isle of Mann

Established in 1892 and a mile east of Castletown. Par 72, 6544 yards. This is a must do! Situated on a headland on the Irish Sea it is one of the most inspiring settings in UK golf. It comes complete with it's own road hole the par 4 5th which has a tarmac marking the out of bounds line between the green and the beach. The 17th has you driving over a ravine with the surf pounding below.

Oundle

Established 1893 a mile west of Oundle on Benefield Road. Par 72, 6072 Yards. If your game is up to it you can try and drive 4 of the par fours on this course. With a new club house built a couple of years ago and the 19th overlooking the finishing hole this course is great value with a great history.

Established 1975 and 2 miles off the M25,junction 11. Two Courses Par 73 & 72 6,403 & 6,197 yards. the longer and more challenging course is a good test. The Bernard Hunt course is named after the Ryder Cup veteran who was the club pro here for years.

Northumberland - Matfen Hall

Established in 1995 and 12 miles west of Newcastle of the B6318. Par 72, 6,650 yards. The course is set in mature parkland with the River Pont comming into play on several of the holes the course is a good test of your skills. This is an excellent course to stay and play as the 53 room hotel has good facilities and has the feel of a 18 century manor.

Thorpness - Suffork

Established in 1925 and designed by James Braid as a maritime heartland course its on the 25 miles from Ipswich near Aldburgh. Par 71, 6,034 yards. This is a classic course from the period and with plenty of natural hazards in the form of heather and gorse and original style bunkers you will find it a challenge and will probably want to come back and have another crack at it. The Lyndrick - South Yorshire

Established in xxxxx and 4 miles west of Worksop on A57 off the M1 Junction 31. Par 71, 6,270 yards. This is one of the UK's finest heartland layouts and was host to the Ryder Cup in 1957. This course deserves respect and requires good course management. Don't leave your driver in the boot, but don't pull it out of the bag more than three times. The signature hole is the par-5 4th known as the Cockpit.
